Welcome to the documentation of the SOFTWING Eurodollar conversion component. Here you find information about the methods supported by the component, the samples that ship with it as well as a bit of background information on the Euro (also referred to as eurodollar)
With the advent of the European Monetary Union (EMU), it is becoming increasingly important to deal with the new European currency, the Euro. This component was developed to help making your application compliant with dual-display, correct conversion of monetary values as well as rounding using the algorithms outlined in article 235 of the Maastricht treaty.
The component comes with the EURO-11 countries' exchange rates built-in, which can be added to or changed at any time. It supports triangulation between currencies and conversion to and from Euro using either a currency symbol or an exchange rate you supply.
The Euro conversion component is an OLE Automation in-process server (DLL), that provides compliance for Euro conversion, dual-display and rounding to your application - be it an eCommerce web site, an Excel calculation sheet or any kind of standalone application that needs to support the Euro.
It ensures a broad reach by supporting a dispatch interface and a dual interface. Programming environments supporting the dispatch interface are VBA in Office or Active Server Pages. The second interface - the dual interface - ensures high-speed through early binding (also referred to as vtbl in C) in programming environments like Visual C++, Visual J++ or Visual Basic.
The examples provided with the component show how to use the component in the programming environments named in the previous paragraph. The samples stress the use of the component in high-speed environments, showcasing common usage scenarios like dual-display of prices on an eCommerce web site, wrapping often used conversions in high-speed functions as well as generic conversion calculators in many programming environments.
